The X-Box Funbox

Video game commercials sure have come a long way. Apparently the current trend is just to make absolutely bizarre things that will stick in people's heads. Like, the PSP commercials with the talking balls of lint or "nut you can play outside." This is Microsoft's contribution to the "What the fuck were the ad executives thinking?" genre.

  • As much as I like weird ass commercials that stick in my mind, Fun-Box is about as fun as sticking nails into my eyes. Although kudos for the English born African, and the Asian girl with a teenage year old hairstyle to show the every increasing diversity of X-Box players.

But this ad campaign reminds me of Phalanx, the SNES game which had an Old Man appear on almost every of Kemco's SNES games boxes. It did the same thing, trying to get people to wonder about the game itself

  • Funny, I always thought that Phalanx was aiming for the same audience that thought that Deliverance was a documentary. That, or fans of the Voyager pilot.

  • Several months ago, when I saw a complete, boxed copy of Phalanx, I couldn't resist picking it up because, you know, of the artwork (and it was $5).
